[Pakistan Politics Journal] Moral Implications of Investment: A Study of Islamic Versus ...:      Also according to the Islamic bank, its Treasury Deposit Account must comply with the guidance and rulings of its Shariah Supervisory Committee.  The bank only acts as the customer’s agent in commodities trade and credits the customer’s account with profit made on each purchase or sale of commodities (“Murabaha Treasury Deposit Account - Features & Benefits”).  The conventional bank, on the other hand, does not make such claims.  Barclay’s Sterling Treasury Deposit offers customers “attractive rates of interest,” and “fixed, tiered interest rates linked to the London Money Market” (“Treasury Deposits”).  Additionally, the bank does not inform its customers about the type and frequency of investments made with their deposits.  The interest rate is fixed at the time the customer deposits funds.  Although the minimum balance in a Sterling Treasury Deposit must also be £100,000, this minimum amount may vary depending on the terms of the account (“Treasury Deposits”).  As a matter of fact, Barclay’s Sterling Treasury Deposit allows businesses to tailor their accounts according to their needs.  For six months or more, customers may make a minimum deposit of £10,000 at the bank.  Customers that wish to deposit £50,000 or more may avail shorter terms on their treasury deposits (“Longer-Term Savings”).  The Islamic bank, on the contrary, would not allow balances in treasury deposits that are less in worth than £100,000.  Another difference between the Islamic product and the conventional financial instrument is that Barclays offers fixed term deposits that could be made for one day to five years.  It also offers call deposits that allow customers to earn interest on money market rates and access their funds the same day.  A deposit that can be withdrawn with a seven days notice is available as well (“Treasury Deposits”).  The Islamic treasury deposit, on the other hand, does not allow customers to withdraw their funds by issuing notices.  Instead, the Islamic Bank of Britain permits customers to withdraw their deposits together with the earned profits only at the expiry of the fixed term that is agreed on by the bank and its customers.
