[The Courier] Letter to the Editor: Centennial admin defends global citizenship ...: approach. The course and the framework are at the leading edge and have no equal within the Canadian post-secondary education landscape. Members of Centennial College are fully aware that we have the greatest student diversity among all community colleges across Canada. Students with backgrounds from 90 different countries with more than 100 different languages make up our student body. Our students are not only multilingual, but they bring diverse cultural, religious, ethnic, gender, socio-economic and racial compositions to the learning context. When this is coupled with present day realities of living and working in Canada while dealing with globally interlinked social, economic, and environmental issues, it would be unrealistic (and educationally unethical) to not address these in our students’ educational experience. It is neither destructive nor dangerous to include discussions on equity, global citizenship and social responsibility in an educational process. Many would argue that it is precisely what responsible education needs to do.

[Blog] Military revolutions and military history: and as the origin of the international state system and the militarism that lay behind the ferocity and the scale of war witnessed in the twentieth century.1 Light field artillery and mobile tactics by armies with infantry in shallow formations increasingly deploying firearms over the traditional pike were, in brief, the innovations mainly credited by Roberts to the Dutch and Swedes in the early seventeenth century. Among the effects of this more offensive warfare, the ever-bigger armies it required and, above all, the stricter discipline, organization, and practised drills necessary to take full advantage of the new military opportunities, was the resulting fiscal and organizational pressure felt by states.
