[Centre Tricontinental - CETRI] The identity of the individual as a citizen conflates with his ”˜social identity’, namely his community’s identity in the case of Lebanon, and the sociological ”˜social organization’, community, he belongs to. The connection, or disconnection, of the social self with citizen behavior is the outcome of the relationship between the ”˜self’ and the ”˜social environment’ [6] and the relationship between the ”˜communal self’ and the community at large, whereas every human being strives to enhance and protect the identity that they associate with.

[Tadamon!] Tadamon! » From Lebanon to Gaza: Finally the Palestinian people living under Israeli military occupation in the West Bank and Gaza have also become victims to their unworthy political leadership at the Palestinian Authority (PA). After Gaza 2009, the building of the apartheid wall, the massive expansion of settlements in the West Bank we have now less than 50% of what the West Bank and the PA continues to negotiate.

[The Orange Room - forum.tayyar.org] Re-engineering Lebanon's political establishment: a critical eye ...: World conspiracy back then drove Syrian brutal occupational forces in to the last free zones of Lebanon. A dark era of corruptionism, multiple military occupations (Israel in the South and Syria in the rest), illegitimate government and more followed until late 90s and up till the first few years of the 21st century when free cultural activism, mobilized by a high sense of patriotism and vision to the future of Lebanon, were behind the strong currents of liberation that spread in every corner of Lebanon's territories.

[Armenian Weekly] An Interview with Vartan Gregorian (Part II) | Armenian Weekly: That lesson has been important for me to remember because at Carnegie Corporation, we also deal with important issues that require passion. Internationally, we deal with the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons (and have done so for the past 25 years), with international peace as one of our major objectives.

[NOW Lebanon] Lebanon news - NOW Lebanon -Gangs of Lebanon: Violent youth groups tend to present themselves as beyond the reach of punishment, protected either by their money, their political party, their fellow gang members or, sometimes, by the absence of the state. The perpetrators of the above-mentioned attack went unpunished, at least in part, because the members of the gang come from affluent families - members include the sons of an ex-minister and prestigious businessmen - and were able to settle with the victim’s parents.

[News, Opionion and Features from Asharq Alawsat English Edition] Q & A with UNRWA Commissioner Karen Abu Zayd Asharq Alawsat ...: Moreover, the host countries did not want to grant them citizenship because they wanted the refugees to return to their houses one day. But with the passage of years and the fact that the refugees did not return to their houses, UNRWA became a "humanitarian development" agency offering all basic services that are normally offered by states or governments, such as primary education, health services, and infrastructure services.

[Matthew Yglesias] Matthew Yglesias » Pro-Israel, Pro-Peace: Practically speaking, I think there are plenty of good justifications for a jus soli as opposed to a jus sanguinis, I agree with you that contemporary Palestinians should not be granted a right of return (whether people who were displaced 60 years ago should be able to go back is moot because almost none of them are alive right now), and I think that the borders of the 1949 armistice are fait accompli, but I think your justifications for why the territory currently controlled by Israel should remain so controlled are weak.

The Blue Blog: Griffin was there for one reason , all the mainstream politicians have chosen to ignore the electorate regards immigration, and regards the cultural identity of our country, which has slowly but surely been eroded over the years, thanks in the main to the labour party, but there has been very little serious opposition.Secondly you can’t create an underclass, furnish them with benefits and hope to sweep them under the carpet, you do so at your peril … you need to get out and talk to individuals David, let them know that the conservatives will make a difference and explain how,so far there has been too little substance ….and for heavens sake scrap the all female list…I and many others do not want a repetition of Blair and “Emily’s List”,it’s condescending, and an insult to the electorate….and people still want their vote on the Lisbon Treaty,Europe will not go away.

[INTIFADA] Under Siege: Lebanon's Palestinians 27 years after the Sabra ...: One particularly egregious recent example of Lebanese politicians continuing to pressure the Palestinian refugee community for personal political gain that is building anger, occurred this month, when one self proclaimed ‘defender of the rights of our Palestinian Arab brothers’, the Free Patriotic Movement’s Michel Aoun took an initiative to “help Lebanon.” Political ally of Hezbollah and Syria, Aoun was able to miraculously arrange for Lebanon’s Court of Cassation , which is closed tight for the Judicial vacation with empty courtrooms and offices, to issue a special injunction, freezing any and all rebuilding of the Nahr al Bared Palestinian Refugee Camp near Tripoli.

[The Raw Story] The Raw Story » Jordan begins revoking Palestinians' citizenship: Either revoke the citizenship of all the Palestinians with Jordanian citizenship (which includes the queen, the doctors, the professors, the business men, the scholars, the students in the universities etc) or stop being hypocrites by claiming it is for protecting the national identity of every person cuz if that was the case then the millions of Palestinians that Jordan quite frankly couldnt survive without, at least not succesfully, would have their citizenship revoked and as long as they are talking about the importance of every persons identity then how about giving credit where its due and stop referring to Palestinian achievements in Jordan as "Jordanian". I remember when Jordan won the arab super star (the arabic version of american idol), the singer was a Palestinian however the bedouins with jordanian citizenship ( i.e the "pure" jordanians that are not from Palestinian descent) gladly referred to her as Jordanian and took pride in her without mentioning that she is in fact not of jordanian i.e bedouin origin, just like the queen noor who is of syrian origin, and queen rania who is of Palestinian origin.
