[The RiotACT] Where do you think the energy companies are getting the finance to put up their windmills from? Given that the investments the ACT government is making are using my and other ratepayers money, I would prefer it if they weren’t investing it in tobacco or leaded fuel.

[Ethisphere Ethics News & Commentary Blog] Knowledge, Commitment and Experience-Lead the Way | Ethisphere ...: However, the really most important thing we can do is to set an example in terms of the fact that there is the rule of law and there is also a higher rule which is about our values and the ethics that go with them. One way I can convey that message, apart from living it in the company everyday, is to urge our employees to go out individually and collectively do things that are more than just the required minimum day job.

[NewWest.Net All Headlines] At Montana's Biggest Wind Farm, Bat Deaths Surprise Researchers ...: Seven years ago in 1998, industry Consultants Paul Kerlinger and Richard Curry presented an avian mitigation plan for the APWRA at a meeting of the National Wind Coordinating Committee. In that plan, the authors referred to an Adaptive Management Program that was comprised of such things as: priority treatment of high risk turbines, testing and installing perch guards, developing a peer-review process for evaluating the efficacy of perch guards, and providing assistance to the County in its rodent abatement program at the APWRA.
[The Sietch Blog] The Sietch Blog » Nevada's Solar One Power Plant: All the huge wind turbines and the token number of solar plants that are likely to be built over the next few decades won’t be able to produce enough power to keep pace with the net growth in demand for electricity. So our addiction to oil and its accompanying perils are not going to be appreciably avoided or mitigated by the desperately wishful thinking about wind and solar - which have absolutely nothing to do with oil since less than 3% of our nation’s annual consumption is burned to generate electricity (and of that amount nearly 5/6 is comprised of tarry residues left over from refining which have virtually no other uses).
[Climate Progress] Climate Progress » Blog Archive » Is 450 ppm (or less) politically ...: Windmills could pump desalinated seawater inland for irrigation instead of providing unstable and expensive electricity, or they could power reverse osmosis pumps. Solar or wind power could potentially be used to produce chemical fuels as well, and undoubtedly there are many other uses that don’t require constant power.
[The Energy Blog] The Energy Blog: Gore Nightmare Wins as Europe Pays to Ship U.S. Coal: 70s, which is what lead to many nuclear plants being canceled even before TMI. Also since the energy crisis n the 70s, there have been tremendous improvement in US efficiency.

[Comments for Tesla Founders Blog] Focus Green « Tesla Founders Blog: Your insight in to Hawaii being the perfect test bed for electric vehicles is spot-on though I must say to the commenters who think that we couldn’t exceed 220 miles here in a day that such a thing is quite possible although represents the outside edge of vehicle usage (I’m excluding fleets here). However, Maui really represents the best test bed with enough distance to travel in a mix of city-style traffic and rural roads and being small enough to make it quite easy to only have to charge a vehicle every 3rd day.
[Against the Wind] Answers to some of Cape Wind's Pesky and Misleading Promises: 1) Cape Wind will reduce the clearing price for electricity in the New England spot market by reducing operations of the regions most expensive power plants, this will reduce electricity prices in New England by 25 million dollars per year 2) Cape Wind will reduce the implementation costs of the Renewable Portfolio Standard to Massachusetts electricity consumers by increasing the supply of renewable energy certificates. 3) Cape Wind will pursue long-term power contract(s) that will lock-in a fixed price for electricity for a term of ten or more years.
[SciTechBlog] Nuclear power: seeing less political fission these days ...: Someone mentioned puting solar panels and windmills on skyscrapers, that is great to power the top floor or two…but how do you power the other 20,30 or more floors. Nuclear power is safe and efficient, the cost of building plants would come down quickly if we could build a standard design get it approved and then construct 50 or 100 of them across the country.
