BOOKS: Citizens or subjects that is the question
[Tribune] “Like the civil society”, he notes, “citizenship has come to mean everything and nothing: the nationality indicated by a passport, entitlement to benefits, commitment to a particular political or social order, even decent behaviour towards one’s colleagues on university campuses”. This observation is a bit confusing, coming from someone who so carefully follows the history of citizenship from its “restrictive, less relevant” beginnings through its complex, “more relevant” development and who, in the end, fails to place the meaning of “diffuse” within his parameters of “relevance”.

SEC Charges Mutual Fund Manager for Violating Socially Responsible ...
[Accountability Central] According to the SEC's order, Pax World violated the Funds' SRI restrictions by making purchases in the securities of companies that derived revenue from the manufacture of alcohol or gambling products, derived more than 5 percent of their revenue from contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense, or failed to satisfy the Funds' environmental or labor standards. Pax World Funds held at least one security that violated their SRI restrictions at all times from 2001 through early 2006.

[The New CSR] Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against SRI, but in this case, investments under the guise of SRI have resulted in a mishandling of the pension fund money of California’s state teachers and public employees. SRI shouldn’t be unprofitable and the metrics for determining what is an SRI need to be reexamined. Socially responsible citizens shouldn’t have their pensions jeopardized by irresponsible investing.

[Good Honest Dollar $$] In an ideal world, governments, as representatives of the people, could be trusted to reward ethical behavior in a fair and reasonable manner. Unfortunately, however, we live in the real world, where the process of favoritism and reward based upon ethical behavior easily becomes corrupted, and industries with considerable political muscle tend to benefit from such processes at the expense of those with less political muscle.
